REPETITIVE TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION (rTMS)

What is Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy?

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive procedure, which excites the neurons of the brain by applying magnetic field. The rTMS apparatus delivers the magnetic field into the neuronal circuits while it is rapidly switched on and off. The faster the machine pulsates, the more robust and stable the current in the neuronal circuits become. This is referred to as the Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS). The rTMS treatment requires the combination of electromagnetic stimulation at a particular frequency and a coil that will transmit this magnetic field to a specified brain region.

What mind disorders can be treated with rTMS Treatment?

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Depression
  • Mood Disorders
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)

PROCEDURE FOR rTMS TREATMENT

  • Referral from a doctor or a psychiatrist is not mandatory for the rTMS therapy. An appointment for the initial consultation will be arranged with a doctor from Neuro Health.
  • The treatment procedure will be explained to the client by a medical staff.
  • The treatment protocol includes 20-30 sessions. 1 session per a day is administered for 4-6 weeks. (weekends off)
  • A clinical assessment scale ( Beck’s Depression Index and Hamilton’s Depression/ Anxiety scale) and cognitive screening will be administered prior to the rTMS treatment.
  • The client will be given earplugs before each session to protect against the slight noise from the equipment.
  • The effectiveness of the treatment will be determined by the client’s verbal response and clinical assessment scales ( Beck’s Depression Index and Hamilton’s Depression/ Anxiety scale) after the treatment.
  • At the final stage of your therapy, you will be provided with the Patient Report, which will include your scores on the clinical assessment scales, summary of the treatment provided, and your updated result.

A similar report will be sent to your referring doctor or psychiatrist which includes an up to date detailed report on your progress.

  • You will also receive a survey, Patient Satisfaction, which we kindly ask you to complete and return to us.
  • Following the completion of the therapy, the client will revisit for follow-up after 6-12 months. The returning time may vary depending on the individual.
